XP Boot Problems

I built my computer this summer and am running xp on it. However when I go to boot it, it will get to the splash screen, flash a blue screen with some text on it for half a second, and then reboot. However, when I change the bios options, (regular boot to quick boot or chance the primary and secondary boot sources) I can get it working again for a couple boots.

Any thought on the problem or how to diagnose it?

When booting the computer keep tapping F8 key so that you can access the safe mode options. Use the arrow keys to highlight disable automatic restart on error and hit enter. The next time the blue screen comes on, it will stay on. Now you can give us what information is on the blue screen. Most of the time you will see a stop code with a bunch of numbers in partenthesis around them. Or you will a message with what file the error is concerning. My first guess is that you may have a bad hard drive or a corrupt driver. When you can, give us the error message listed on the blue screen.

Thanks, for some reason F8 doesn't seem to be working, but I'm able to operate windows xp just fine now. Is there a way to check for an error when I"m operating windows?

The event viewer might tell you. Right click on "my computer" click on manage, click the plus sign next to event viewer on the left. You will see application, system, security and possibly a few others. Most likely it will either be under application or system. Look for red x's labeled errors.
