XP Disc, Licence Keys & laptops

Hi all.

Heres the situation. I have a laptop, which came with a driver CD and the XP product key stuck on the bottom. I also have a desktop that came with a XP CD and licence key from the company I bought it off.

Can I reinstall XP onto the laptop using the CD that came with the desktop, and the product key stuck on the bottom of the laptop...? Or will the CD only work with the product key it originally came with..?

If the CD that came with the desktop is a plain XP installation CD, then yes, that should work. If it's a factory recovery disk, then it won't work.

The computer was a custom build from a small local shop so I guess it is a normal one. Just has Windows on it printed on it. Wicked that's gonna help me out a bunch.
