XP Doesn't boot

Gentlemen,

I've had my laptop (VAIO VGN-N320E/B) running stable for three years with no issues. It's running Windows XP. Then, last week, it wouldn't boot. I booted off a CD, ran chkdsk, it found a few errors and all seemed well. I rebooted several times with no issues. The next day, it did the same thing. It says it's booting from HDD0 and then sits there. No errors, no failures, nothing. So this time I checked the disk out with badblocks on a RIP linux CD. I even tried the write test and it passed. I then tested the memory for several passes with memtest86 - nothing. I ran chkdsk, it fixed a few errors, and then it booted again. Within a few hours, I restarted it and it failed again.

I haven't installed any software, and I have auto updates disabled so no drivers were changed.

Any ideas?

There's a few things that could be wrong. But what about just installing a new fresh copy and backing up your old data? It'd be the easiest way..

If bwolf knows how to do all the checking stuffs like CD booting, chkdsk, memtest, then I dont think he didnt consider reinstalling Windows. However, it would be the last resort since backing up data, reinstalling all the drivers and programs... consume quite a lot of time.

It's obvious, isnt it?

what are the errors?do you remember error-code?

According to your description, I judge that the memory is bad.
some .dll files of your laptop is missed

Download and run the drive makers disk diagnostic utility and run it, you'll most likely find that the hard drive is going out on you.
