ok, I have gone and downloaded most of the required drivers from Acer.com, but there is still one ! mark that has me confused. What is that PCI simple communications controller, and what does it do?

The other marks there are being fixed now. The VGA 275.33 driver from Nvidia is downloading, and the Atheros wireless does not have an XP driver that I can find.

Edit, trying the 267.24 XP driver. the 275.33 said it wasnt compatible with XP.

I think the PCI Communication Controller is your probably your dial up modem. Your graphics seems to be an intel graphics and not an nvidia forceware. have you tried cpuz? its a great little app for finding the right drivers for you pc if you cant find much from the acer website.

Cheers

It's the dial up modem. You don't list the model of acer you have or I would give you the exact driver.

5742g-6846. Its not got a dial up connection at all.

Its got a GT540m GPU on top of the i3 integrated. So it needs an nvidia driver. Just dont have one that works.

Right click on the pci simple communications controller and click on properties, Click on the details tab, give me the 4 digit vendor and device id numbers. Look like this.

the Chipset driver fixed it. Thanks anyway John.

And all of the drivers compatible with the GT540m BSOD after install. So I have disabled the Nvidia card in the DM and its all working now.
