Xp for a compaq

i had a compaq gave to me it has Windows Millennium
800mhz durn processor
with 192kb on-chip cache memory
128mb ram
40.0gb hard drive
8mb Nvidia tnt2 vantalt graphics card
my qusetion is could i put xp on this computer

Probably not, if it's not campatible. Look for a sticker on it, sound say something like "optimized for Windows Millennium" if it says thatm that you can't put a more recent OS on it.

You can make it compatible
or you can put the take the HDD out and put it in a newer laptop (that has an IDE HDD) so your can go in it.

He could install XP on it and it would run. Granted it may be a little sluggish so he might want to turn off the fancy colorful theme and go to a more "Windows 2000/98" look but yeah it would work.

Like mentioned Xp will run on it,But i think it will be slugish.

Your best sticking with something like Windows 2000,that should run very nice.
Or linux.

I do not suggest listening to this person, everything he said is rubbish xp, with its defualt theme will run alright on those specs, if u could manage to pick up a little more ram, you would be set.
