Hello everyone,

About 3 weeks ago my computer had a disc boot failure, it looked like my HD was dead, yesterday i bought a new HD ( Hitachi deskstar SATA, 500 GB, 7500 rpm, 16 MB cache).

When i tried to install Windows Xp home it asked if i wanted to partition space but in the box where the drivers were supposed to be it said "unknown disc, no drivers found". I pressed enter to continue but i came up with a blue screen that said "To protect your computer it is shutting down, if this is the first time you have encounter this screen try again if not then........ it continues to explain that i should either try again in safe mode or get help" . At the bottom of the blue screen it had error message:

*** Stop: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005,0xF741CAD,0xF6E997E4,0x00000000)

*** Setupdd.sys - Address F7418CAD Base at F73EC000,Datestamp 41107C8F

What operating system are you trying to install and what kind of cd are you using to install?

Windows Xp home edition upgrade. ( i have two copy's and one has SP1 on it) I also have both Windows 98 and Windows 2000 professional to upgrade from
.

Sounds like you might need the sata controller driver at the beginning of the xp install. Thats the most common issue.

how do you find out the name of your mobo? it seems that all the info i have on the computer in question is the Dxdiag (which does not have the Mobo name) which i copied for a game :o.

Open the case and look around the pci connectors, the board name should be there somewhere in big letters. Is this a store bought computer or a custom built?
