Hello all,

I have a laptop with an XP Home Retail sticker on the bottom, but I don't have a Home Retail CD. Any suggestions on the best way to acquire one?

Thanks!

You could try contacting the manufacturer or the place where you bought it from and ask for the cd.

Are you sure its retail and not OEM, as mostly all laptops have OEM Operating system.

I'm in the same boat. Its such a pain that they dont give us the disks when we buy a computer. i bought a Dell and they didn't include the disks for the OS. I am calling them tomorrow about it. I dont know where or how or what kind of computer you have, but you might consider doing the same thing.

I hate talking to Dell's customer service, it takes forever to get a person on the phone. I usually just dial the number and keep pressing zero until I get someone. I have to go to Dell, well because Dells are kinda picky on their software like BIOS and Drivers.

There is a way on most computers to make a repair disk though. What kind of computer do you have and what is the OS?

i posted an ad on the local craigslist for cd, no key, got some good replies.

some people have them lying around after their computer kicks the bucket.

No, it would not be legal and you would be taking a chance on downloading a malware infested copy anyway. Buy a new copy of the OS. Order the recovery cd's from the maker of the laptop.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I've always thought that that color sticker meant retail (the green ones). On top of that, it doesn't say either OEM or Toshiba on it. I thought it would be OEM until I saw the sticker, I guess now I'm just unsure.

Color doesn't mean anything. All laptops come with an OEM license. Unless you put a retail version on it yourself. Like i said, call and order the recovery disks.
