XP Initial Setup/Configure Help

I've never used anything but Windows 98se and 95 and I just got a laptop with XP Home pre-installed and I'm a little confused here at the get-go after reading the little booklet. I plan to use the XP Home for a couple weeks unactivated and then install XP Pro, which I have on CD.

I'm just a single user without a network or a network administrator and no domains and no workgroup. Just me. The little manual talks about these things. I have DSL. I won't be transferring anything like files or settings.

What is the quickest and easiest way to get this up and running. Thanks, Jack

You don't need XP Pro on there. Just stick with what you have and don't make your life more complicated than it needs to be.

Yeah theres no point in instaling Xp pro if your not gonna be using it on network realy.

And plus you will be throwing away your copy of windows Xp home.

If i was you keep the Xp home on your laptop and save the Xp pro if you ever need it for another computer.

Thanks, yes I like to keep things simple as possible. So XP Home is more geared for my uses and computer knowledge. The MS XP booklet I was reading was for the Pro setup/configure so I guess setting up Home will be more simple. I'll just hold on to the 2 Pro CD's (Dell OEM's) and keep them with the driver CD's in case they are ever needed in the future. Cheers, Jack

Things change

Things do change. Seems the owner glitched when he told me it had XP Home installed. Just called him 'cuz I was confused: as I am getting all the #'s and stuff together I notice I have an XP Pro Recovery CD and the Pro Booklet and the COA sticker on the bottom reads XP Pro SP 1. He confirmed its pre-loaded with Pro.

What is the best simple set-up/configure for me with no domains or workgroup and no remote stuff, just DSL.
