XP install from usb drive?

:eek:Please let me make myself clear. the tread I wrote before got closed by a moderator. I am here to ask for help to recover a netbook which I don't have access to an external dvd drive at this moment. Windows XP installation disk can be copy to multiple copies just use disk copy from any dvd burner software. So I am not looking for learning to copy XP and distribute it to make illigal money.
I have this situation that a netbook I have got attacked by virus. I need to do a clean system recovery to get rid of this virus. I don't have an external dvd drive now. ( plan to buy one but not until 2 months time)
The windows XP installation disk come with the netbook. So I do have licence for windows xp for this machine.
I am try to see if I can copy the files from the XP disk to the usb drive to boot the netbook so I can do the system recovery.
If anyone know how to make the usb drive bootable with windows xp please help. if the moderator don't like this kind anwsers to be post in this forum, can anyone willing to help email me?
I try the other methods with the previous tread which won't work with windows XP.

Do you have a warranty on this Netbook? If you do I would contact the manufacturer for help. It might be an easier route than trying to do it yourself.
 
you have formatted your USB flash drive and installed the boot files onto it, the next thing that you must do is to configure your PC to allow you to boot from the flash drive. This is all done through the computer's BIOS Setup. I can't give you specific instructions for this part, because every computer is different. I can give you a few pointers though.

If you are doing this from a Vista machine, you may need to run PeToUSB.exe as administrator in order for this program to recognize the jump drive. Right click PeToUSB.exe > Properties > Compatibility > “Run this program as an administrator” checked.

You could also install from a USB CD rom drive. You can pick those up pretty cheap and it's probably the easiest method. I myself have an Eee PC and I used RIS (remote installation services) which comes with Windows 2003 server to replace the dreaded Win 7 Starter that came pre-installed.

:DThank you, I have follow the instructions on the link and got it work on the 1gb stick, the 2 gb and 8gb stick doesn't work though. thanks again.
Anyway I have one more question. do you know any link that will install the windows xp to the usb stick? like it or not , internet is playing a big part in our life, and so do the nasty viruses and worms, if windows xp can be installed on the usb stick. I can clean boot the computer and do the virus scan from the usb stick instead the hard drive which might boot the virus to the memory at startup.

This one looks like it will be easy to understand also... Follow it to the T and you will be fine. Although some of the booting options will probably vary depending on your specific model.

You can make a USB rescue drive also.

This video will give you an idea of how to use PEbuilder, which is pretty much an essential tool for these types of things. Use this link with your newly obtained knowledge of how to use PEbuilder.
