XP install hangs

Yeah, it appears Im caught in the middle of computer hell at the moment. I have another issue with another PC as well. Im trying to install XP on another computer, but its hanging at the Licence Agreement page. Now this computer has a non registered version of windows on it, its got a few malware issues as well, so I purchased a new version of XP and I want to format and start fresh. Any reason why it would be hanging?? Is there another way to format like back in the old Win95/98 days were you used a floppy to create and format the partition?? I am booting from the CD, but its just hanging as i mentioned.

Cheers JB

Are you using a USB keyboard? If so get a PS/2 keyboard and enable USB support in the Bios or just use the PS/2 keyboard.

Its a USB keyboard with a PS/2 adapter, so I am using the PS/2 port. So I need to just use a straight out PS/S keyboard or enable USB in the Bios and leave it how it is??

Thanks.

I've had this same problem, and the only way that i managed to fix it is to unplug all the usb and ps/2 cables try that and see if it works. Only plug in a keyboard when you have to get to another screen or something like that.

hmm, interesting...its a little absurd to have to go through something like this for something so GD simple...thanks for the help so far guys..

Yeah its really weird with XP. I remember when I was installing XP on a all-in-one pc and had a usb mouse and keyboard plugged in and after unplugging both, it worked like a charm.

I tried doing the keyboard unplugged thing, but when I plugged it in after the startup, it failed to recognize it. The package says that this version should only be sold with a PC and not on its own. Whats the deal with that?? Does it have anything to do with why Im having this issue?

So you are unable to press the F8 button and continue the install? Perhaps the F buttons don't work on your keyboard. As mentioned before some keyboards have an F-lock button that you need to press in order to enable them. Also try a different keyboard. Is this an actual microsoft XP install cd or a system recovery cd? What does the cd say?

Did you get the Windows XP CD with that computer or with some other computer or did you separately buy it?

Well I cast my eye over that whole agreement and it did not tell me to press F8. Anyway, problem solved and hopefully the next person can learn from this...thanks again guys
