Heres my situation. 160 GB Netbook hardrive (the netbook has no CD drive), 2 partitions, one's 20GB (L:/)- Dosent show up in "Computer" via windows7, nor does it show up in ubuntu. Iv'e connected the drive with a USB cable and adapter to connect it to my desktop, i tried to put XP on it, but it only copied the Files from the install CD to the L:/ drive- if i use an XP bootloader, i should be able to use the installation files on the netbook to Install xp...

i have 2 problems...

The Bootloader is looking for install files on the C: drive, not the L:...

also, how can i add an XP path to my windows7/vista bootloader for XP like ubuntu without using the program "Easy BCD"?...

any help is greatly appreciated.

You probably have to initialize the partition. Go Control Panel>Computer Management>Disk Management and look at the drive. The partition that doesn't show up in My Computer should be there. Right click and initialize disk, then format.

If you want to actually install an operating system, then you'll need to boot from the installation CD to install on that partition (can be done other ways, but this is easiest). You can't just copy the windows files over to the disk, you won't be able to boot from that. Also, if you're planning to dual boot Windows 7 and XP, you might want to read up on how others have successfully done that, as improperly installing a second OS can cause the first to stop working.

It sounds like the partition you're looking for isn't formatted. It should show up in Win 7 as Unallocated Space, if this were the case.

As far as the other issue, EasyBCD is the "Easiest" way to get XP onto the Boot manager. Unless you install XP first, then it's not an issue.
