XP on iMac

hi everyone 1st post!! (lurked for a while...)

well i have a brand new intel iMac and i cant stand OS X

i downloaded boot camp im gonna install it tonite but heres my problem

i dont want to go out and spend $$ on XP when i have a perfectly good XP SP2 install disc from my laptop can i use that? it says only use on a HP or compaq does it matter? can i bypass it? what about the auth code?

1 word...my parents wanted a mac (damn propaganda)

and when they want stuff done on it, its a real PITA, imo i just dont like it

You can't install XP on two computers at the same time. How much is too much? Windows XP Home is only $85.
 
what mac is it? G5 or Intel? Ever try running virtual machines?

Also, OS X is solid, stable, and pretty intuitive, but it's different I would at least give it a chance.
 
I doubt you can use the CD to install XP.

HP/Compaq only gives out SLP product keys these days. Basically, it will only install on the computer it shipped with. And the key will only run on the computer with the matching CD. It actually is tied with the motherboard/BIOS, which enables you to upgrade other hardware without re-registering a million times.

This was the case with my Compaq laptop. Product key on the back only works with the CD the laptop shipped with, any other XP CD I used says the key is invalid.

Not totally true, considering we have 1000s of HPs at my work, the newer ones come with an actual OS disk, at least ours do. However, some of them require the Plus drive pack CD to be present during the install, and some are just plain old SP2 XP discs
 
Ah then maybe it is different in the corporate sales. My laptop, my dad's V5000, and my mom's old V2000 all had SLP keys, couldn't install XP with anything but the original disk.
 
he can install it on vmware but you think he'll be able to play games on it? he maybe able to install stuff but not gaming since it is using generic drivers

nope, virtual machines lack 3D support, and they eat up RAM. Virtual machines are great for testing things out, and cross platform access to basic useage. Its not like I would run a virtual machine to watch a DVD or play a video game.
