xp or vista

Im building a new computer and i want to know what OS i should throw on there

If you have patient, wait for windows 7. I think it worth wait for it.
But between xp n vista, better go for vista.

+1 for the wait for Windows 7.

If you need it now, Vista x64 definitely. There is no point of sticking such an old operating system on a spec that new.
