XP Password problem

I recently installed Windows XP onto my computer. After a time, for no apparent reason, whenever I booted up the system, it asked me for a password I never set. I've tried every conceivable password I would ever use just in case I accidentaly set it somewhere, but that didn't help. I have absolutely no idea what could be wrong, and I'd really like to solve this without having to format my drive and lose all the files I have. Thanks for any advice you can give.

if you can't get into windows.....after you boot....click on the F8 key and start in a 'safe mode' and try to work it out from there.... just a thought

Worse comes to worse On your motherboard take out the CMOs battery and it will reset the BIOS therefore resetting the Password to nothing.
