XP Printer Driver

Hey everyone, i need some help with HP printers on my Dell with XP.
When i try to print, the printer goes through the normal dance but the pages come out blank?
I have two printers, both work well on other pc's but on mine they have never worked right. When the pc was new the pics and text came out dark and now there is a blank page. HP updates don't help, Dell blames HP, Hp blames XP! Microsoft won't help! ????
Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

make sure the driver is compatiable with the operating system. if you have left this printer for some time and have not touched it, the ink could have dried and clogged the pipes. an empty ink cartridge?
 
Thanks! The printer is a HP 5550. The other an 812C. Both work on other Dell's with XP But not on mine? I was told there were XP printer driver problems but can't find the fix i'm looking for?
