XP Pro 32bit to Vista 64bit

Can you upgrade from XP Pro 32bit version to a Vista 64 bit version? What version of Vista 64 should I even get? They're so freakin many and I never really understood the REAL differences. I am more concerned about stability and whatnot.

Yes you can, but I would recommend doing a fresh install. I would also go with at least Vista Home Premium, or if you want to spend the money then go with Ultimate.

Want to spend the money? What would I be getting?

What are the "Ultimate Extras?"

It's not worth it IMO, the only real advantage is that Vista Ultimate x64 supports up to 128GB of RAM, where as Home Premium x64 only supports up to 16GB.

Well it just so opens I don't have any intentions to install or use 128gb of ram!! Wohoo! Vista Premium 64bit it is! Thanks again Omega!!

But then who is going to want more than 16GB of memory in their machine, there's nothing that would take advantage of that and by the time there is Vista will be but a distant memory itself.

Thats what they said about Windows XP supporting 4GB, where we will never need that much memory.
