Hi, I have one PC which has a legit copy of Windows XP installed but i have the disk, but cant actually find the little piece of card wiht the key on. So the question is where about can i go to see what the key was when it was installed as i think i once heard you can go into the registry to find the key so that when i format the pc as it needs formatting, i can re eneter the key.

Thanks.

I take that back, that is a download which when you run the .exe file it just constant spyware. Trying to remove it and have McAfee going crazy it.

I presume you never used it before so you wouldnt realise its spyware etc, but for future, dont use the program.

Ive used that program many times, and i know other people who have used it alot. And not once has any of use got spyware.
Well i downloaded the .zip file, extracted the .exe and double clicked it, and McAfee just kept popping up saying spyware etc etc. Have done a scan with ewido and thats seem to of solved it.

Hmmm, thats strange, never seen that happen before

I tried it; no viruses found by Avast. However, Avast has informed me that some other programs have viruses when they in fact do not, such as Bart's PE Builder, and WX Tide.

EDIT: Odd. The key that shows up is NOT the one that is on the sticker on the back of my PC.

Yeh that program is clean. McAfee usually brings up some false positives in regards to those types of program, as they access registry to extract your key. Its safe i use it all the time to extract ppls windows cd keys.

Cant you just look on the XP sticker with the bar code etc on the side of your pc??

A lot of people build their own pc's here... So it wont be on the case.

Yea, you should just look at the sticker, Was XP installed when you got it or did u buy it then install it. Because if you bought XP by itself, a sticker should have come with it.
If you validated and registered windows when you first got it they should be able to retrieve it for u

No sticker on machine, as was custom build. Have a CD but no sticker, no piece of card nothing. Otherwise would of read it off their.
