xp pro to xp home

I have a laptop that needs reformatting. Windows will not start up. It has xp pro installed. I do not have the reinstallation disk but I do have the product key. Can I use the reinstallation disk from my Dell desktop for xp home on the HP laptop? I have the product key for that as well.

No you cannot use it as the Dell disc is tied to that Dell system.

Cant use a Home disk with a Pro key.

I've used a dell disc with a different computer,

as long as you have the correct product key for the disc it will work

Your not supposed to do that though because that key is tied to that computer and cannot be transferred.

Technically yes. But it must be the same version, upgrade, full, oem as the one that you have the license for.
