XP Problem - Click One File, Highlights All Before?

Hi - my computer this morning has been acting very odd. I click say (for example) the 10th file (alphabetically) on my desktop / my music / pictures / documents and every file before it gets highlighted too and if I double clicked the file, it opens all the files until it gets to the one I want to open.

Any advice?
 
have had this problem before. one way to fix it is to just restart the computer. Also possible is to take a thin object such as a knife and pull up the clicker(mouse button :P) just a little
 
Already tried restarting, doesnt work.

Also the same thing happens with the arrow keys on the keyboards going from file to file it highlights each one as I move.
