Trying to do a clean install of XP and having difficulty in removing Win to enable clean install.

Does not show in add/remove
have tried using $NTservicepackuninstall$
and also recovery console.

All to no avail

Any Ideas ?

set up bios to boot from cd, then boot run the installer chose the location(the same as the old os). then chose to format that drive, problem solved. then you can do a clean install.

How i am attempting the impossible ? All i want to do is remove windows so i can do a clean install, but i cant find it as per original post.

Windows XP is not a program that you can "Add/Remove".

It is your Operating System.

What kind of computer do you have?

Do you have the recovery discs that came with it or do you have a retail Windows XP disc?

According to Ms site, it can be found in add/remove or you can use the XP disk by using the recovery console or alternatively the hidden $ntservicepackuninstall$
see http//support.microsoft.com/kb/875350

I have the full version of XP Pro 3 which i want to use for a clean install

That article refers to removing Service Pack 2, not removing Windows.

If you want to clean install, boot from your Windows install disc.

If you have a Full XP pro CD. Boot to it, when it gets to the harddrive section, delete the partition, create a new one, format( if you know your drive is fine do a quick format) and install. You have a clean install of XP.

Thanks all,

I think i must have had one red to many as i was getting myself confused !

I will do a clean install with a format

Cheers
:good:
