XP Setup : No HD detected

I'm currently setting up a machine on XP home edition.
The hard drive is a western digital 250 GB on SATA.

I hit F6 and "specify additional adaptors" - insert the floppy disk i got with the motherboard. 3 Items come up in the list:

Install VIA smartX bus driver
Install VIA smartX port driver
Install VIA smartX raid driver

I choose all 3 and continue with the installation.
eventually it gets to the screen past Windows setup and says
"Windows cannot detect any hard drive...."

I also tried loading one at a time with the same result.
Has anyone got any ideas? Im really stuck :[

i had this happen to me when i had my Gigabyte motherboard, i had to use Seagate's discwizard, which you can get here, (i was using a hitachi, so i'm pretty sure it'll work for a western digital) to copy an IDE drive onto the SATA drive so that my motherboard would detect it. after that i could reformatt with the XP cd just fine. if you've got any old hard drives layin around somewhere you could try that, worked for me. it also looks like the "starter edition" on the page might help you out wihtout having to do the copying thing, but i never tried that one, i don't even remember seeing it there when i had to do this...
