XP SP2 Problem

I got a new hdd for my computer and when i went to install the windows xp cd on it, it installed fine then i ran all the updates and that worked fine. When it came time to install the SP2 update it would download and install then restart my computer.

The problem I'm having is after it restarts i get the windows xp splash screen the blue scroll bar the a blue screen that says please wait with the windows xp logo in the top right. I wanted to know how long it should take because when i tried it last night it seemed like a hour went by and this blue screen was still up and not doing anything

You can always search on the net on how to slipstream SP2 into a new install cd. The easiest way is use Autostreamer. You put your dell XP installation cd into the cd drive, Autostreamer should automatically recognize it and you have it point to your SP2 upgrade file that you would download and it slipstreams it into an ISO file, which you would need nero or roxio to burn to a new cd. Its really simple to do.

I fixed it.....I took my hdd and put it into my dads computer and everything installed fine. then i just put the hdd back in my computer and had to reactivate it.

thanks for the help

Unless the motherboards are pretty much the same you might end up having problems with doing that. Whenever you install windows using a different computer then what it is intended for will usually cause you problems in the long run. When you installed XP, you set up that hard drive to work with the motherboard hardware that is in your Dad's computer. You might have to end up doing a repair reinstallation in your own computer so that its set up to use your motherboard.
