XP SP2 registry keys

Is there a reason you don't want to upgrade to SP2? You can disable the firewall and security center.

Service Pack 2 simply isn't a few registry entries, even if you found a way to "fool" the software into thinking you have SP2 installed then chances are that the software won't work. If a program specifically states that it requires Windows XP SP2 or higher to run, it's probably because it requires certain system files that are present ONLY in SP2 or higher. For the sake of understanding what you are wanting to do, would you mind briefly explaining why you don't want to upgrade to SP2? If it causes conflicts with existing programs or configurations then just say so.

Yes, there are many reasons, but this topic is not about those reasons. Please stay on topic and if you can't help my with above issue don't reply.

Hold on...

Wait a sec...

Were you just face palmed, OMEGA?

Anyway, look...
IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER, DON'T REPLY!
I really don't need to know that "you don't think it can be done", or "I might find the answer somewhere on google", and last but not least I don't need to know I can update to SP2 (I think that if I create such topic it's quite obvious it's not the issue). So please stay on topic.

The reason we sound confused is because this isn't an everyday thing people do. I, for one, am still curious *why* you wouldn't want SP2. SP3 yes, I can understand, but the 2nd? So that being said, with as much knowledge as there collectively is on CF, I hate to say it but...you might find the answer somewhere on Google (And, incidently, probably a lot quicker than waiting/hoping someone sees this Thread and replies).

In any case, enjoy your stay at CF. Feh.

Does SP2 break some kind of copy protection you have bypassed possibly?
Obviously if the reasons are not able to be discussed then your problem doesn't necessarily need fixing. In my 3rd google search I found a possible solution (simple reg hack) but rather than having you find it, I'll give you what I've found so you can gtfo.

Go to: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows"
And change "CSDVersion" from the SP1 value (0x00000100) to SP2 value (0x00000200)
If you know about the registry then you should know what to do if you can't find that value.
While this will make your comp seem like SP2, it doesn't get rid of the fact that some system files added by SP2 will still be required. SP2 was the best thing to happen to XP so I have no clue why you wouldn't want it unless what you are doing is bad.

But I bet you haven't tried it.
Are you implying that I am wrong in saying that changing the name has nothing to do with the install? Yes I've installed programs with their original downloaded file name and then again at a later point when I rename them.

Doesnt really matter if you changed the file name to SP1 anyway. The dude just doest want SP2 installed (for so called reasons). The files will be installed if you changed the name or not, so his (so called reason) would still pop up. He is pretty much a noob for asking because both can be bypassed. Not that I suggest either of the above or approve of it.:)
