XP SP3 RC1 available for public consumption

So was Vista's RC1 and RC2 releases. But those were still lacking quite a bit there until the full retail product came out. When the IE 7 beta release was first tired that was also for public consumption but sadly lacked and was removed fast here. The actual finished version has done a great job over IE 6 here.

The first thing to make note of is MS's own warning seen in the overview that states:

"This pre-release software is provided for testing purposes only. Microsoft does not recommend installing this software on primary or mission critical systems. Microsoft recommends that you have a backup of your data prior to installing any pre-release software."

Here it wouldn't be a problem since I run XP on one drive and Vista on another without a dual boot configuration where XP could be reinstalled separately. For those depending on XP with a number of things like downloaded programs the wait for the final release would be the best move for them since this contains all of the more recent updates they would have downloaded anyways with the auto update option enabled.

If you just reinstalled XP by chance you can download and save this release to a folder on the drive for installing afterwards unlike what was seen with SP2 when that came out on the update site. There you had to run the installer right away or find a page like the one there or at softpedia.com for downloading the redistributable package. http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Windows-XP-SP2-RTM.shtml

It's still a good catch since SP3 has been long in waiting for many. Although MS may most likely add a few more things by the time the finished release is available you can grab this for now and store in a safe place if you need to reinstall Windows while waiting instead of going after some 93 seen as of late.

im using the sp3 RC1.

it seems exactly the same lol.

if you change some registry information... which is most likely illegal, you can download it safetly through windows update.

never realised they just had it there to download like in your link haha

I wonder if SP3 will add support for newer hardware and RAID drivers. I may have to slipstream SP3 into a copy of XP and try it out!

WHERE is the differnence?

I had Windows Defender Installed.
I had Internet Explorer 7 Installed.
Theres now Remote Desktop Connection.

Where is this new theme? Many pictures on google show a new theme with SP3! ;)

You don't have to change anything in the system registry to download the SP3 RC1 seen at the link there or for any other MS update. For a fresh installation or reinstall of Windows you first have to see the Genuine Advantage tool installed following the activation of Windows before being allowed to download anything from the link there or at the update site.

The Genuine Advantage is the latest MS method for fighting software piracy. http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/Pr...en&sGuid=6fee88c7-521b-4113-847d-4e0b19485092

lol i realise that now.

the i changed it so windows update thought i was a tester person and allowed me to downlaod it that way.

i hadnt realised that they had just realeased it for everyone

hermeslyre made a good catch there since that was only in developers beta form until MS feels that it can be made available publicly with the warning that it's not the final version at this time. In other words,:eek::eek: !!! :P
