Xp to Vista question ?

I have a little issue I'm sure you guys can help me with

My mother has a pc with xp and I have one with vista, there's files on her pc(My old one) that I want to access from my computer, what do I have to do ?

We are both connected by cables on the same router for internet connection

Woops firstly You'll have to share the folder that the files are in. To do this you have to right click the folder and go into the Sharing tap.(This is on the XP computer). Once your that tab Click the boxes that say "Share this folder on a Network" and "Allow network Users to change my files" If you want a Specific name for the folder Put it in the "Share Name: " writeable box thingy. Then click apply then ok.

Also please correct me if im wrong but then you could go into "Network" I think its called on Vista(in the start menu) and look for your old computers name? Then you should be able to access the files.

You might have to setup a network...Its pretty simple on a XP computer you just click "Set up a home or small office network" in the "My Network Places" Window. I'm not sure what it is called on Vista sorry since I use Media Center.

ya but the file sharing only works for a month unless yo went out and baught the full program instead of using the trial program its a sweet program non the less to find out the mac adresses and ip adresses and submask especially for finding out if the people i allow are on my net its a kool thing, and just to let you know if you do have the trial vers.
everything except file sharing works when the thirty days is up i want to put it on some of my buds comp. but they dont want it cause i can see kind of what they r doing
 
^ I only need to transfer stuff from my old pc, so I don't need it for more than a week


Though it's unbelievably long, it's says 2 days remaining for a 3.5 Gb folder :(

And my old computer keeps shutting down, so it will be hard to get everything back :(

ya know you can also use aim to transfer them too just need two screen names but w/e y dont you try splitting up the stuff in the folder so theres not so much to transfer at once it would speed things up a bit and you would at least have some of the stuff before the other computer shuts down????
 
^ Yes I already have splitted the stuff, i have 150 Gb of data to transfer and I\ve tried with MSN and it's the same speed
