XP, Vista, why not have them both on 1 computer with dual OS option?

OK, I'm sure many if us are aware that Vista would be bad to get at this day in age, but I have not forgotten that we can have 2 OS in a computer. Just when you log in you must press F12 er something like that to choose. We like XP, were sceptical about Vista. lets have the power to choose! Think it would be a good idea, what do you think?

could be a good idea, i use to switch back from 98 and xphome, kinda slows down comp.... and why are people skeptical about vista? i must be behind wahts wrong with it?

Well, its new, and as all new things from Microsoft it needs updating. People worry about weather its security stuff is OK, and to just plain get all the bugs out.

its new, and most new things have problems, but vista was so well-made that i think that it is completely useless to worry. the worst that could happen is a small bug where you would have to restart. then you send the error report and microsoft will pay special attention to fix that bug

I was going to do the same, but im not sure how to do it. I have XP installed on my C driver and i only have 1GB of Free space but my second HD has 100gm free. Can i install Vista on my second HD and still have the option to pick what OS i want to use at start up, or i have to have both OS on by C driver? Thanks for the help.

ADE, this is done many a time. I personally am putting Linux (Ubuntu 6.10) on a machine side by side with XP. It isnt that big of a deal, but with two Windows OSs it is kind of pointless.

you dont need to hit f12. when you installed xp first then vista vista's bootloader has an option " earlier version of windoes = xp. :)

When you have two or more OS's, you need to make changes on both. Like if you add some website links on XP, you need to do it again on Vista. It can become a big pain in the butt.

i didnt need to do that i just copy them over to the vista favourites or just do a export.

Do you really want to do that every time you make a small change on either OS?

Im not talking about when you first get Vista setup, im talking about when you make a change in either Vista or XP, you would have to copy the change on the other OS.

I only use Vista and XP for a little while I guess, but when doing so I only plan to use it for games. Like Halo 2 for PC and stuff like that. I'll never use Vista all the time, I like XP and considering almost everyone has XP it would be better as a primary.

im just sceptical about it because it seems like a waste of money at the moment. All your getting is what you can in linux or MAC OS X

vista is a waste of money at the moment, unless you really need the resource hungry 3D desktop enviroment. Then again if you wanted that, Linux already offers it like stated before hand.

MS makes real crappy release products. I have had vista running on a laptop since beta release 1, and have updated it accordingly. Since then it has crashed I don't know how many times and has had tons of driver support issues.

I am sure that the release version is better but I haven't messed with it yet. I'll get my copy of ultimate soon and plan on putting it on one desktop at work but thats all.
