XP wireless drivers

I installed XP on my Toshiba laptop from a Dell OEM disk (lost my Toshiba copy) and so it didn't install the drivers for my wireless card. I downloaded them from the Toshiba site and put them on a thumb drive and installed them. My problem is that I use WPA2 encryption on my router, and for some reason, Windows (and the wireless utility I downloaded) will only allow me to use WEP. I know that my wireless card will support WPA because a) I was able to use it in Ubuntu with WPA (I dual boot) and b) the drivers i downloaded indicate that they support WPA.
My question is: is this a driver issue, or a Windows issue? I am currently downloading SP3 on my other PC so that I can put it on a thumb drive and then install it on my laptop. Any other advice?
 
Thanks jd! I was getting a migraine trying to figure out why the drivers weren't acting as they should =P
My concern now is: will I be able to install SP3 without an internet connection(I am transferring the cab file to laptop right now via thumb drive, but will it install)?
I suppose I could insecure (unsecure?) my wireless just for activation purposes tho...unless you have a better suggestion?
 
OK, I just ran the SP3 exe file on the laptop and got an error that the version of windows must at least have SP1 installed on it. The description for SP3 on MS website says that it includes ALL previous updates. Shouldn't that include SP1?

I found a download for SP2 on MS download center...this should update from my current version of SP0 right? :D

no because XP Gold and SP1 isnt a supportted product anymore. It includes all *supported* updates. Install Sp2 then Sp3.

You want the versions that say "SP(X) For IT professionals / network administrators"
they dont need a network connection, there large but include the whole SP in one file.

handy to keep these, integrate them (sp2 first!) into a your XP cd and burn a new cd for future use.
 
Ah..so that's why I couldn't find SP1 =)

Yah, that's what I'm going to do here, create an XP CD with nlite. I've never done it before, but I read about it on Lifehacker. My only concern is that I'm creating a disc from an OEM version...but it's the only copy of Home I could find (and I do have a valid key on my laptop, just that the person I bought thelaptop from lost the CD)
 
it should be fine, just make sure to use your key with that cd (beware that dell OEM cds may have the dell product key set as default, in that case in the "unnatended" section of nlite, specify the corrext key.) Dont bother with any other sections or you will probably just break something.

Do Sp2, finish nlite, then rerun it from the start for Sp3.

You know how to burn .iso files right?
 
I use imgburn to burn isos.
Are you are saying that I should run nlite before I install SP2 on my pc? Or will it be fine to run SP2 and SP3, then keep the install files and then finally run nlite?
 
install sp2, then sp3 on the pc itself

i wasnt talking about installing when i said " Do Sp2, finish nlite, then rerun it from the start for Sp3." i meant when slipstreaming, integrate sp2 first, quit nlite, then rerun it and integrate sp3

Nlite is just handy for the long run (in case you ever need to reinstall again its much handier to have an up to date disk)
 
Oh ok, I see what you mean. I've never used nlite, so I wasn't sure what you meant, but now it makes sense.
