XP won't install

This may not be a motherboard issue but I saw a similar question from previous days - Here is the deal - I killdisk'ed my C drive, and wanted to start all over with my (yes I admit it) bootleg copy of windows xp pro, which i got many years ago when the system came out - I have Fdisked it before and gotten XP to load up, but after the killdisk it wont boot from the CD, now I suppose someone removed the boot park of the image, but is there anyway I can add that one needed aspect to the disk, I am running Mandrake Linux 9.1 right now, so this is how I have access to some functions, and If nothing else can I somehow overwrite Linux with the Windows CD by getting to the setup within Linux (it wont work through winE, I already tried that, because of the way the C is setup through Linux) Any help would be great, thanks

So you formatted your Harddrive? With or without disc? What exactly happened when you used KillDisk?

Wait so if the Windows XP Professional diddnt work when the disc was formatted, why would it work to overwrite Linux? What condition is this Disc in if its two years old?

i'm thinking if the disk is 2+ yrs old and the harddrive you are trying to install it on is newer its not going to work...but then again it might just be due to a scratch on the disk or something of thata nature. when you say "it wont boot from the cd" what do you men? does it give you an error or does it just reboot or what? if it gives you an error its most likely a problem with the actual CD. others will be able to help you more on this, im still pretty n3wbish when it comes to windows lol.

sorry for not responding

sorry about that, i was gone for a while, the disk is fine, cause it will load from windows itself - so i know thats not it - i used a killdisk floppy, wiped everything out, all partitions, basically like a new hard drive, only to find out when i set my bios to boot from cd, that my windows xp pro cd isnt bootable, it doesnt find a boot record on it, so i cant get to the setup from there, i can only get to the setup if i start the setup in windows, but i think i found a friend with a windows 2000 bootable bootleg, so i will install that then install xp i suppose, thanks anyway though

Not enough of an indicator. Loading from windows is just an autorun deal... loading from DOS is a bootdisc deal :)

The original Windows xp disk is copy righted, and you can't burn it if you try to install Windows Pro it skrews up your Windows 98, ME etc., and you have to reboot your computer, and that sucks I have been through it.
