hi,

i have a movie on my PC and i cannot get it to play, bundled with the wmp file was XVID setup, which I have installed on to my PC, but I am not sure how to use it. at first i got that anoying orange ! mark on wmp, and a missing codec error, but that was for AC3 sound filter, which i have installed, and now i have sound but no picture.

when i press play, the screen is just green, and occasionally, a really distorted image will appear like so:

wmperroraf3.jpg

im sure i need to do something with the XVID decoder, but i dont know what.

if anyone can help,
thanks in adv.

p.s. apparently for some reason the distorted image i am getting is not appearing on the .jpg, when i hit prtscr, paste in paint, and host on image shack?? i dont know why its doing this, but usually it is a green screen there with a few distorted 'blocks' on it? you'll have to use youre imagination lol.

something is wrong with the video codec but what?

probably your codec is not up to date??
try downloading Community Codec Code... all the codec you can think of in one file... :D

ignore that i d/l'd it now,it works perfectly i cant beleive i never used this program before, so much better then wmp, thanks:)

ill check that codec pack out too, I was using 'nimo codec pack' before dont know if youve heard of it?

i never use wmp always giving me problem i was using BSplayer for a while until they started inserting ads in their player... i then switched to VLC player... another good one for your consideration...

i have never heard of nimo codec pack... does it play every video file extension?? coz the Community Codec pack can play all sorts of files from ogm to mkv... even those that i have never heard of... haha :D

lol, i checked outm that community codec pack, it says it is for playing anime?

also, the film is playing now, but the sound is like slow motion or something, the other way round now...

... how annoying lol

im pretty sure it uses that ac3 sound filter, because that worked for the sound before, but how can i play it in divx and use the ac3 sound filter also?

hmm.. dats weird... i nv got that problem...
guess you are better off with the nimo codec pack
sorry about the community codec pack... :o

no, thanks for your help, I havent even tried it yet, just installing now. i meant that the website says that it is specifically for anime

ok when i run setup it says:
'direct vobsub is present in your system, its known to cause problems, can we disable it?'

what is this? safe to disable?

hmmm... im not sure about that since i installed this pack a long time ago... forgot what did i do last time... but when i got this pack, im definitely sure i uninstalled all other codec pack that i had last time...

try looking at their website and see whether they said anything about that...

i tot the sound lagging behind was because of my codec pack... lol... i got myself confused... hahaha...

lol, for some reason, wmp is now working, I watched the film last night (good film:)). both the video and audio were fine. It seems that installing DivX made some difference to wmp ???

perhaps wmp has a function to search for all codecs in the system, and use the appropriate ones for playback of a given media file (i.e. maybe DIVX had the particular video codec required)? lol maybe something along those lines.

anyhow, it doesnt matter now, ill just keep divX installed, and use WMP,
thanks alot for your help
