No, it is so if someone trips over your xbox controller cable, you don't pull your whole xbox off the shelf/table/etc.
 
Motoxrdude is right, Xbox said that themselves...however, if you want to use a mouse, the only way to do that is some splicing and it must be a usb mouse.
 
Yeah, I mod xboxs and I have hooked everthing up to them. USB mouses, keyboards, external hdds, usb wifi, and more. The mouse isn't much good to a normal xbox, but if you put linux on an xbox then a usb mouse/keyboard are almost necessary.
 
Motoxrdude's right... since the Xbox has a harddisk build in...it needed some protection.. because if the console fall's while its running... you can be pretty sure the HD is broken then ;)
