Yahoo search doesnt work, Google does but only for specified items

this is really screwy. i just reformatted my computer after getting up and running. Installed all new programs and such obviously. Well i was having this issue before and was one of the main reasons for reformatting it. it started a while ago and is now flat out annoying to deal with.

i use yahoo as my home page. if i search for anything application/program related i get nothing. i mean it will sit there and do nothing for a minute then error out with a unable to connect message. It will run through the progress bar till the end and will error every time, no matter what. which is frustrating to say the least cause now the search engine is useless.

now heres the kicker. If i go to google and do the same search for anything like that it does the same. But it will immediately load the search results without a hitch. But then once the results are loaded and i select a link, it throws the same error. This seems to be only with upadtes/applications im looking for.

example; I want to download the new java script software. I type in java script in yahoo and get the error message. I go to google and type java script and it yields results. i select any on that page and get the error message. I type www.java.com in the address bar and i get the error message. Now i type in computer forums in google, it shows the results and when i click the link it goes right to the page. it has done this for every application i have wanted to download or update.

i just dont get it, it is ridiculous what it is doing. I thought it was a virus of some sort doing it. But after a reformat it had to believe it is that. Anybody have any idea what could be causing this?

forgot to add i have another desktop here, as well as 2 laptops connected wirelessly. All setup the same with mozilla/IE and same antivirus software. the other 3 all work fine as far as this problem goes. so i dont believe i to be internet related.

It should effect the other desktops plugged into it and the 2 laptops using it wirelessly. Or at least I image it would.

How do you connect through this computer? I mean the fact Yahoo and Google pages load doesn't mean anything because these pages are stored in Temporary Internet Files and the cache meaning they will load regardless of internet connection. Have you tried pinging these sites through CMD prompt? I think we need to look towards the internet connection from this computer to your router. Probably not router settings but an actual problem be it with network card or cable.

the router is a few rooms over. i run a 25ft ether net cable through the floor into the basement and back up into the other room. i dont have a network card im plugged in directly on the mobo.

I'm not sure. Seems to be sending and receiving everything okay. I might contact the ISP on this one, or maybe someone else has an idea. Sorry.
