i am so happy! ive wanted to try linux for the longest time now, and now i finally am. it is great. i bet the only time i will use windows again os for games. other than that, i dont think i will ever go back. i really suggest you try it, its free :)
 
linux is great but i still do nearly all my development in the windows environment just because of convenience.
 
Heh, i was the same way when i first got linux. The only reason i use M$ is because the ati drivers for linux sucks! But linux is fun when you learn how to use the terminal and all.

Great job! Linux is awesome!
 
Well I know that you can change the resolution from the KDE control center, under peripherals, display, but I don't know if it goes up to 1280x1024. Just check and see, I don't have a ubuntu computer here with me

edit: oh wait...that's for kubuntu, for ubuntu it is under system, preferences, screen resolution
 
well my crap monitor can only go up to 1024x768 anyway :( so ya that sucks for me... i hate 1024x768
 
Well congratulations...Ubuntu is probably one of the best linux distros in my opinion. Ubuntu is easiest to use as well, about your resolution problem...it goes up to 1280 x 1024 in windows but not in Linux? Easy.

Terminal command:
[SIZE=-1]sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Thats basically the command to configure x, after a while of going through it it will show a bunch of resolutions to be able to use, hit a space bar over the ones you know your monitor can handle, then when its done. Restart, and boom! You can set it to those ones you chose :)

When reconfiguring x, if you don't know what to do, go with the default.
