I'm gona build my own comp for the first time  and I wanted to know what you're guys thoughts/recommendations are if everything looks good to go. I especially want to confirm that all is compatible. Just to let you know, I'm NOT a computer guy at all lol I'm an engineer student working in aviation. I chose to build cause I want the option to upgrade in the future since computers move up so much so fast. Hence the reason why I'm choosing high end stuff since it will delay my time to upgrade. The use is for CAD programs with physics simulations and sht like that. Anyways here you go (w/ links):

Total goes out to ~$1500. At first I wanted my budget to be 1000 but I said F that man I'll work overtime and wait for another paycheck. Some things that weren't really necessary (to my knowledge) I just bumped up a little since the price change wasn't too drastic; like the 1tb hard drive or the 8 GB memory, but you guys are more specialized at this than I am. I'll stick with engineering.

Thanks,
Alex

also

I also wanted to know about the cpu cooling. Is water cooling necessary? or should I get an aftermarket heatsink with a fan?

thanks

If you have access to a Microcenter you can get a 950 for $200. Link: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0346210

If the interest is in future upgrading though, you might want to consider Sanybridge CPU's (i7-2600k for example) If you stay with the 950/960, get a 6 GB set of Ram, not 8. Example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226155

Also, keep an eye out for combo deals on Newegg. F3's are respected Hard Drives and this 1TB is combo'd with Win7 for $160.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.591429

Great PSU, less expensive and very well respected: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207003

Save money that way and get a better Graphics Card, like maybe a 6870. Combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.598551

And no, you don't need Water Cooling. If you don't plan to overclock then the included fan with your CPU is fine. If you do plan to OC then Air Cooling is fine.

awesome info man. I will go ahead with the psu you mentioned, the hard drive/win7 combo and also the i7-2600k.

The graphics card combo shows 2.1 slot and the board has 2.0 slot. Is there anything equivalent to what you mentioned that will fit the board's 2.0 slot?

Also since I will go with the i7-2600k the 8gb memory will be fine? what difference is it from 6 to 8? Does spreading out the memory sticks make it faster or something lol

Oh and I will get the corsair a70 dual fan heat sink. Hopefully that junk fits inside my case. I don't really know how to check for that compatibility exactly since I read a review of this dude needing to remove his side fan to fit in his case for a same brand case as mine.

You'll need a different motherboard if you go with a 2600k, and any motherboard you end up with will jive with that card.

That card and first motherboard would have worked together. With $1500 you can probably afford a better card than the 6870. A 6950 or something, or a 560/570...

For a 2600k you'll want a P67 / 1155 board. I don't know much about those. I do know that the first batch had a slight defect so you'll want to make sure that wherever you buy from you're not getting something out of the first batch of boards. I would assume anything Newegg is selling would be good by now, but do a little research on that. I'm seeing (Rev3) or (B3) in the model numbers on Newegg, but I don't know if that means they are part of the newer batches yet.

Oh, and with a 2600k you can use 4 gigs of RAM and be fine. 8 will work but you don't need it. The boards were set up to use different amounts of RAM optimaly. 1366 boards (for the i7-960) were 'tri-channel' and so worked best with 3,6,12 gigs of ram.... the 1155 board will do fine with 4 or 8, and 4 is probably plenty.

Also the 'k' on 2600k means it will allow more Overclocking options. If you don't plan to overclock you don't need the fancy heatsink and you don't need the 'k'. an i7-2500 is probably more than enough power for you. And the price difference could pay for things you Will actually benefit from, like an SSD.

* Don't take my word for any of this. These are just my thoughts and you'll want to do some research before spending your money.

I ordered all my stuff(except monitor) from new egg also, great experience.....I felt more comfortable getting my monitor locally. I have seen what happens during shipping and just didnt trust it. Shipped solo they get kicked around and dropped ( have you seen the monkeys that handle this stuff at the warehouse)and when shipped to a big store chain they get shipped as a whole maybe a thousand in a air cushioned ride. If it was broke I believe you would have to pay the cost to ship it back. I got mine locally took it home , did not like it . Took it back for another and did not like it and took it back again until I was happy. I have had plenty "fragile" marked boxes come smashed up, UPS mans drops it and runs before I can make it out. Just a thought

Do share :)

On the contrary, if you don't plan on overclocking, you'd want to get the fastest stuff you can for the moment :D Of course, your money, your choice. I'd get a sandy bridge system in your position though.

For the ~ $20 difference after the combo savings, I'd at least consider the 6870 with that same MoBo. You've seen it already though so you may have your reasons for the 6850 instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Combo...-na&AID=10521304&PID=4169961&SID=cdeq8gdnliep

You'll have a very nice computer either way, and one that you can continue to add components to as you want them. Also, if you want to use wireless internet with it you'll need to add an adapter. They aren't especially expensive though.
