You Need to Format the drive to use it!!

Hello

I borrowed a supposedly salvaged laptop internal hard drive (turned into and External Hard Drive + a USB cable) from a friend of mine (that's what he told me) which I plugged once to my PC and then clicked on safely remove.
But now when I plug it again I get an error saying that I need to format the drive in order to use it and the Drive partitions that appear in "My Computer" do not show the free/used amount of Gb.
I'm really afraid as something bad has happened since there was lots of data on it and I had just borrowed it to copy a folder.

Please help and guide me.

Connect the drive directly to the pc by sata cable and power cable and see if there is a difference. If not, you'll have to scan the drive for errors using the drive manufacturers disk diagnostic utility.
