I find 7-Zip to be better than winrar.

WinFF and the KLite Codec Pack are handy with regards to playing/converting audio.

Whatever 10 applications I need at the moment are the ones I can't live with out. Some of them I only use a few times per a year, but what i use them for is very important.

There are features that I can't live with out anymore though, which are:

1) Multiple desktops
2) Some sort of media player for music
3) Customizable web browser
4) robust command line applications
5) remote access
6) easy to use

2. OpenOffice.org 2.4 (I use this A LOT!!!)
3. Firefox 3.0 (NO problems and its fast!!! I forgot what a popup was, can somebody refresh me:p)
4. Criawips (GNOME Presentation; starting to use more often than Impress)
5. Amarok (It's like Windows Media, just that everything is moved around)
6. K3b (my right hand man for making backups of files on CD)
5. GIMP (I like the text graphics features and add these to my presentations for some pizazz)
6. AVG for Linux (not for me; it's to protect my Windows friends as a courtesy so that if a virus makes its way in my machine, it won't be passed on to flash drives and CDs I share with Wincolleagues.)
7. Konsole (too many programs to list but I especially like python and fortune)
8. gMail - this is not software on my computer but I like it. NO SPAM!
9. KoloruPaint (I use this to draw examples and insert these in my presentations; I also use it to doodle when I'm bored)

I ruined my numbering system here - how does a math teacher do that:p Oh well, I like 12 software apps.
