youtube video downloader

hi all some relatives have put video onto youtube of cousins, i have heard there is a downloader you can use to get them onto your computer, does anyone know if they are safe to use? i hve looked at a few ( google sesrch} but cnt be sure they dont have loads of malware with them, if anyone can help id appreciate it.

They should be able to provide the original source file to you, you'd also avoid any transcoding or compression losses with that approach.
