Zalman CNPS Series

Hey guys. I'm in the market for a new HSF, and I'm thinking about the Zalman CNPS9500 or CNPS9700. Now the 9700 is around £15 more, but it is also better. What I'm wondering is how much better is it (I'm not bothered about noise)?

According to these guys: http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/cpu/conroe-vs-zalman.html , when putting the Core 2 Extreme under 100% load, the 9700 only cools it 2*C more (which isn't worth it IMO):

So if I could have some feedback/advice, I'd very much appreciate it. :)

Scroll down the page a bit: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article636-page4.html

The CNPS9500 does the job better whilst only running the fan at 5v. If it were to run at 12v (like the Sythe Miné was), basing this on the chart I posted above, I'm sure it could be ~5 - 10*C cooler with the CNPS9500...

I think I'm just going to go ahead and buy it. It seems like an extremely decent cooler for the price. I'm getting the LED version. Now. :D

I would recommend it, they are somewhat difficult to install, expect a little aggravation. However, I could not be happier with the results.

Ahh, that's good to know. I went ahead and bought it. Along with a 160GB HDD that I fancied on getting... :D

Thanks for the help!

I'll post my results here. Hopefully the cooler will do exceptionally better than the stock one. :)

Well the 9500 alone is big enough so it should have some effect. I'll ceck up every day until you post.:D

Well, it'll be here tomorrow (which is today :P). The only thing which is slightly annoying is that I'm going to have to remove my motherboard in order to get the mounting bracket on. Oh well, gives me an excuse to clean everything up and sort out the messy cable management.

but count on having another fan to cool the NB and Mosfetsp

Yeah, I already have an 80mm resting on top of my graphics card, pointing all it's airflow directly over it. :)

wow! howd you do that?? and is the motherboard temp the NB temp?

Ermm, simple. Get an 80mm fan. Put 4 pieces of blu-tac underneath it on the 4 corners. Push it down onto the graphics card. When you want to take it off, no marks are left since the blu-tac comes right off. Plus its an insulator, which always helps. :P

onto the graphics card? like horizontally hovering over the nb while connected to the GPU? is that what you are saying?

Take a photo with your English book next to it please Rambo, that'll give me a good indication of size in me case.:P

my 9500 dropped my temps about 20 degrees on idle and i forget how much at load. pretty significant..

also my vf900 did wonders for my gfx card, it was idling at about 60c and now it idles between 29 and 31.

Ok, one thing that has struck me, is the fact that the cooler slides around on the CPU (as in you can pivot it [anti-]clockwise... :/ Are they all like that? I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions correctly.

Anyway, despite that, the BIOS is reporting a stable 22*C compared to 40*C with the stock cooler (and that is with my CPU @ 3.1Ghz... I'm very happy with the results. :)

I'll take a picture later, and then you will see what I mean...

Refer to above (minus the English book).

Ok, here are the pictures I promised:

Why exactly do you have the fans ontop of the GPU towards the cpu cooler and northbridge? Is it to keep the northbridge running cool?
