Zone Alarm not recognizing Avast Anti Virus

I brought up my Zone Alarm window and noticed that it said it did not recognize any anti-virus software on my computer. I have Avast installed. Is this normal or have I made some type of error?

I ran Avast briefly a few months back and tossed it. It was great at times for spotting web sites trying to put stuff on your system. But it lacked too much in virus detection seen when unknown emails(spams included) started coming in bulk as well as being a good locator for bugs on a drive. The AVG 7.1 Free edition far outperforms it and is readily seen by Zone Alarm as well as the MS firewall that comes with XP. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

Thanks!
Just out of curiosity, does the fact that Avast is not recognizing my Zone Alarm somehow impede how productive it is for me? Will I be more protected using AVG 7.1 since it can live in communal harmony with Avast?

Avast does lean towards spotting spyware infections coming from a new site upon first coming across it. AVG does have it's own methods of boot sector scanning at startup, email scanning, and pest locating when scanning a drive. It also has frequent almost daily updates when you first powerup the system. But remember no one program will catch everything.

AVG just happens to offer better protection as well as better detection on the system itself. In one case when getting ready to reformat a drive I let one virus detected in an unknown I-Worm Bagle infected email to roam the drive. AVG clearly spotted all locations and files effected while not being able to remove it. The system files effected then were simply overwritten with others deleted. It outperformed McAFee and others tried. It should run well with Zone Alarm on.

Avast and Zone Alarm are incompatible... They impede each others performance and in my case, after a while resulted in regular BSOD's... Dudes I bought my laptop from informed me of this after I ended up dropping the system off for a BSOD diagnosis.

I would keep Zone Alarm and dump Avast in a heart beat. Z.A. has seen no problems running along with AVG, AdAware, Ewido, Windows Defender, Spyware Blaster, Spybot S+D, and others. Spyware Blaster was removed here after a brief period of time.

I am currently running AVg 7.1 and zone alarm is not recognizing it. IS this a problem, or just something not to worry about?

I am currently running AVG 7.1 with the ZA free version here without seeing anything to worry about. When you see a popup for allowing or denying access to the internet the choice you make is only done one time unless you forget to put a check mark in the box at the bottom left. After a period of time those atop appearing until "something new" is put on or gets on your system. But the freeversion is stripped down of all but one feature. It survives Leak Test as expected there but not leak tests overall.

AVG is the one to keep there if you got a link for Jetco. The idea of testing firewalls for leaks with a number of different tests is the thing to look at. That determines which one is the most effective.
