Hi again computer forum people! Sorry I haven't been posting much lately. Here is my specs. Mainly I want people to check to make sure everything goes together. My goal is to run far cry 2 at recommended specs. I already have a dvd drive and a hard drive. Please don't try to tell me that intel is better because of whatever. I like AMD and no numbers can change my mind.

I believe I have everything covered. I posted the case simply because I noticed that a lot of reviewers on newegg had trouble with high watt power supplies fitting in their cases. It is full tower so it should be fine though right?
Also I know it won't have dx10, but I want to continue using windows XP. Vista is a major disappointment. My question is will they make an xp version of far cry 2 like they did for crysis?

looks like a sweet rig man. i'd recommend upgrading the gpu though.. might be worth the wait to get a 4850 or somethin also get an amd chipset motherboard. just a suggestion though :p

as for farcry, i'm sure they will make an XP version, if not somebody out there will make a crack so you can install it on XP, seems to happen everytime. like with Halo 2, within a couple days of launch somebody had a crack for XP. since it's not majorly sponsored by microsoft im sure it'll be XP ready :)

Can I ask why you aren't going Intel?

Have you considered the 8800 GT?

Or for a bit more the 4850?

Loyalty mainly. I've had a better experience with AMD. This is only 512mb I don't get how its better (its been a while since I built a pc). I want Nvidia because I tried to install linux and it seems ATI and linux don't get along well.

I don't want to use a crack. Everything on my pc is completely legal. I'll look into both the gpu and motherboard thing.

i wouldn't worry about it. i'm very sure it'll be available for XP.

however yes, i would highly recommend a 790X chipset motherboard OR 790FX and certainly a better GPU. i guarantee you that card will not play farcry2 on recommended settings. take a look at the 4850 and if you can afford it, the 4870. with that 790 board you can add another card later on down the road to boost performance, so it's a good move to be future proof that way.

The 8800 GT may just be slightly better but the 4850 is a lot better. When It comes down to it 512 MB of RAM is all you need on a graphics card right now(For the most part). You can't just look at the RAM when deciding on a graphics card.

If you look at the specs you will see that the 8800 GT has a 256 bit interface, and yours only has 192 bit.

On the other hand the 4850 has a higher core clock, memory clock, and has 800 stream processors, compared to yours which has 96.

Now if you want to stay Nvidia here's a card that is slightly more expensive, but will give you huge performance gains over your first selection;

I personally will go for a 790FX chipset Mobo with ATI 4850 (those with aftermark HSF) instead.
Case: I personally will suggest a ATX mid tower. But up to you...

Nah the price is already high enough. :P I don't really like mid towers there isn't much room to work in them and I can't even get the power supply out without removing something else most of the time. Of course I've only used $36 mid towers and cheap ones that hp and dell use so I'm guessing the $200 ones are better. Still I know this case will last me for a long time and I'll be very happy with it.

How's that looking? I dunno about Gigabyte though. Are they a decent brand? I didn't want to go with ATI because I'd really like to use Linux but I guess gaming is a higher priority.
EDIT: By the way my goal was to keep it under $1000 but its close to $1000 so I guess that will be fine.

looks great, yea gigabyte is an awesome brand, ive had a couple of their motherboards in the past and one currently with no problems at all. as for gpu, i think you'll really enjoy the 4850 :p.

Thanks for the help. If you want to add in a comment or tell me of an alternative part I should get you have until christmas. I'm ordering the case hopefully today and I will be slowly ordering parts. Here's my mostly final list:
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119138
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153062
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146789
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103249
Motherboard 1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128352
Video Card 1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127359
Motherboard 2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130136
Video card 2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121272

The reason I have 2 video cards and motherboard is because I figured that prices will go down by christmas so I might be able to fit the $1000 budget with stronger parts. Also I hate going to order something only to see it discontinued so they are also sort of backups.
