My 9800GX2

I got my 9800GX2, and I see no better performance than my 8800GTS 512mb. What the hell? I have my Q6600 OC'ed to 2.9ghz at the moment, and plan to go further later on. Is my CPU holding me back or something?

No increased FPS. Like on Crysis I decided to run it on very high with no AA and got around 15 FPS. Well if I do this with my GX2 I get maybe like 20 FPS. Also if I add 2X AA it doesn't really lower my FPS.

I've downloaded the drivers. I'd hate for this to be the issue, but could it be not getting enough power? I'm using an adapter to go from 6 pin that splits it into two 6+2 pins, but I only have only of the 6+2 pins plugged in. Maybe it's not routing all of the power to the one 6+2 end? Is there a way to check if it's getting significant amounts of power?

What kind of PSU are you using?

The 9800GX2 is two 8800GT's slapped together into one card... I'm not sure if it would or wouldn't use SLI. See if you can enable it, see if it makes a difference.

Two 8800 GTS', actually. But yeah, I'm not sure if you need to enable SLi with the GX2, so that's why I asked. My 3870X2 was Crossfired out the box, but I'm not sure how it works with this card.

I have it set in the control panel for the two GPU's to work together, that's how it came.

I remember when I first put my GTS in the 2nd PCI-E x16 slot and it told me to move it to the first one since I wasn't using SLI. Maybe I need to put my GX2 in the 2nd one?

Also I have a 1010W OCZ gamexstream power supply.

Ah right, my bad. I guess if the OP just fiddles around a bit with the settings they'll find out.

try enabling SLI optimisation in farcry itself
and yeah get a better psu

also try the newest BETA drivers, it may yield some performance gains.

yeah but he said he only had one of the 6 pin connectors in, and that it wasnt a dedicated rail , he was splitting it off something else

No. You didn't read. I said I was using a 6 to two 6+2 pin adapters since I only have two 6 pin rails, and yes they are separate and dedicated. And I only have one of the 6+2 pin ends of the adapter used, and it's for my gx2.

Is that PSU really old or something? I was looking around NewEgg, most of the 1KW have like 6 6-pins and 2 6+2 pin connectors. Most 600W PSU's at least have a 6+2 pin connection.

Since its two 8800 GTS stuck together, if you have a game that doesn't take advantage of multi GPU's, you wont see any performance increase from your old card im afraid
