Hello people!!!!

well im due to recieve my new Q6600 tommorow and thought i would post in advance for some help.

right i need help with the following things.

1)Memory timings - For some reason when i had my e6300 at 2.8Ghz i could only run this ram i have now at 6-6-6-18 or if i changed it to say 5-5-5-15 OR 5-5-5-18 and restarted ,i would get no display on the monitor and i had to reset the cmos to be able to boot again.
i plan to overclock to maybe 3.2-3.4Ghz if im lucky,my memory which is linked below can take up to 2.1v-2.2v
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...l Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2G8004GK)

2)Voltage for cpu and memory - now iknow its diffrent for every system, some may need more voltage than others but what voltage would you reccomend i set my Q6600 and my ram to to get to 3Ghz stable for starters?

3)Is there anything else i should know?

tks people

Well, if it's any help, here's my settings;

CPU Core: 1.45625v
CPU FSB: 1.40v
Memory: 2.1v
nForce SPP: 1.5v
NF200: Auto

FSB - Memory Clock Mode: Linked
FSB - Memory Ratio: Sync Mode
FSB (QDR), Mhz: 1700
Multi: X8

I'd say try for 3Ghz on the stock voltage, and see how it goes. If it isn't enough, knock it up a notch, and if that isn't enough, up again.

The biggest jump on the vCore will need to be made on anything over 3.2Ghz.

Is there anything else i should know?

If your FSB will support it, people tend to get better results using the X8 Multiplier (like me) instead of the stock X9.

try keeping it at stock volts, my Q6600 (B3) is only one step above stock volts at the speed it is at right now.
while overclocking keep your memory at the speed they were made for (set a divider), this will make sure that any instabilities will be the fault of the CPU rather than the RAM. Later you can try to increase the RAM speed after you get a decent CPU overclock.

if you want some real help send me a message on aim at angotdamagicstik or PM me for ICQ/MSN help.

What are you on about!?

This is a forum, post your help here. You PM somebody, that's one person helped, you post it here, and you've helped who-ever looks at it.

It came today danny, installed it and no problems at all.

i think i might not overclock just yet,im gonna let the AS5 burn in a bit.
not only that im going to be away the rest of the week from home anyway so...

these are my temps atm, that intel power thing is enabled aswell so its downclocking it when the power isnt needed.

i think the temps are a tad bit too high for what frequency its running at now,i hope they improve after burn in.

33c is fine for idle! ;)

Looks great though, how are you liking it?

you think? only consider its only runing at 1.6Ghz and its quite cold in my room i think its not cool enough.
but i wont know until ive left it a bit for burn in,the family will use my pc throughout the week so should help with burn in while im gone.

im loving it so far, noticed a big jump in boot time, thats all ive done so far i have not played COD5 or anything yet so.

Nice cpu you got there :o

thankyou sir,it was between the Q6600 and the E8400 but having four cores got the better of me over the E8400 :D

cant wait for Alan wake to take advantage,i just hope my GT is enough:cool:

I thought that a Q6600 would run cooler though, especially with a good CPU fan.

I think maybe the E8400 would run cooler because of it been 45nm,where as the Q6600 is 65nm but im just hoping that after time the temps will get better.

my cooler is good, its 100% copper, like i said i think its just my thermal paste needs to burn in.
if the temps dont improve i can try some Asus thermal paste i have OR MX-2 which i also have :D

Yeah, they're fine. I'm getting 24c idle at the moment, but 31c is perfectly fine. You read stories of people having like 40c as their idle temp. Anyway, Idle isn't really all that important, it's the load temp that really matters. Do you know what that is yet?

Yeah, Push the power button, Boot, In Windows :D lol

You don't know anything. Why would it run cooler, it's 65nm, and it has four cores... 31c is a perfectly good temp.

24 IDLE  do you have a jet engine blowing onto that thing? :D

well just to see what my load temp is i ran Orthos for 5 mins just to heat her up a little and i get this

Cpu:50c
Core 1 :48c
Core 2 :50c
Core 3:49c
Core 4:45c

dont like that load temp  immagine what it would be if i OC to 3.4.

Orthos only stress' my first two cores, is there a newer release? I know Prime95 stress' all of them, that's what I use. I set it to 'maximum heat and power' and let it run for about 10 minutes.

24 IDLE do you have a jet engine blowing onto that thing?

Oh, just dropped down to 22c :P

When I OC'ed mine, the temps didn't go up that much. So I think you'd be Ok. They are a little warm, but still within Intel's specified max temp.

you dont need to overclock if your cpu can do all the things you need without any troubles

true, but theres extra performance just waiting to be unlocked in this little baby.

same as my E6300,it was 1.86 stock and when i overclocked to 2.8 it was ALOT faster.

I cannot get Orthos to run on my 64bit os,it just wont launch but prime 95 launched no probs.

so you think that the temps wont go up that much if i overclock anyway?
il give it a week for burn in:)

exactly

Nah, I doubt they'll go up that much. I wouldn't worry about it, like you said, let it burn in and they'll probably drop a little.

Do you mind if I use this thread to share my overclocking experience with my q6600?

Im running stock fans with a CNPS9700, an exhaust fan behind it. I took off two of my bay covers and cut out a metal grid and put that in there, and will soon add a 140mm fan into the empty bay area as an intake.

At completely idle im around the mid-20s. With a few background programs running, which is usually my 'idle' im at 28-30. Im hopping the extra intake will drop that down a few Cs.

Anyways, once im back home from Thanksgiving vacation I can see where I can get this thing.

of course not,it helps all of us out there ith a Q6600 :)

Still no realy good temp drops on my side,

Coretemp

Core 0 -35
core1 - 33
core2 - 31
core3 - 31

i realy want them lower, thats again at 1.6Ghz idle
