Ubuntu 8.10

Well for the most part, the drivers seem to work right away for whatever reason. For the video card, you do it pretty much in the same fashion you would on windows, except you click the linux link:P If you do have compatibility issues though, that's out of my novice linux-user hands, I'm sure one of the more experienced members here could help you clear that up should the need arise.

Most systems run ubuntu straight out of the box. The drivers should automatically be enabled or at least found. For the most part ubuntu has good driver support. Install the OS and see what is going on. If you are worried about installing Linux then google if your pc is supported, and see what comes up.

I would suggest running it from a Live disk first to see how you like it and if your hardware is supported well enough. You can also install it into Windows to test it in an easily removable fashion or on a spare hard drive.

Yeah that's an option. Also there is an application called "Wubi" that actually installs Ubuntu in a manner so that you can delete it right from Windows. It' installs in a folder rather than a partition I believe. I've had luck with WUBI on my netbook, so you might want to look into that.

Wubi...that's it. Yeah, that's what I was referring to. It's getting late for me. :)

Yeah, sorry I wasn't sure if that was what you meant by the Windows thing. I've used it multiple times, yet I've never uninstalled it. It's supposed to be able to uninstall cleanly, however, from experience I'm not sure :D

No problem. It installs quite cleanly.

Though, be careful if you install Ubuntu to a removable device such as a USB flash drive (which you can do and it works quite well). Make sure that have it install Grub to the main drive! I goofed and when I removed the flash drive I couldn't figure out why my worstation wouldn't find a bootable disk when I came back the next day... Silly mistake. Easy to fix though. :o
