You can use any 3 same sized (ie 1GB) sticks of RAM that fit in the motherboard for triple channel. You don't need to buy a special kit if you don't want to.so does that mean i can't use 3 1gb sticks that used to be in a dual channel motherboard, on that motherboard i posted?

Well, depends on exactly what memory also, as older legacy ddr3(above 1.65volts) poses a risk to core i7 processors as the memory controller is on the cpu die, not the motherboard.
