Hm, right you are.. I'm going to get 140mm fans, know of any good ones?

Accidently chose the wrong, motherboard & cpu combo..fix it in a sec.

There aren't a lot of choices for 140mm fans out there. The 120mm CM R4's push 90cfm of air and are silent http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ActiveSearchResult=True&SrchInDesc=L2R&Page=1. Most 140mm fans don't push that much air and the ones that do are loud. The ones that do push that much air and are silent are pricey.

I'm not a fan expert so you might want to get a second opinion on that:)

Thats a very nice AMD build man. I would look into triple monitors and a second 5850 down the road for the ultimate experience. Check this article out, it shows some cool features of Eyefinity.

He is getting 2 5850's look again:)

It is going to be one epic build for sure:good:

The Core i5 750 is cheaper and better than PII 965

You can also use the rest of the money to get HD5870

The i5 is not that much better then the 965. It is no cheaper either the 750 is $199 and a decent motherboard is $150 that is only $7 less. The socket 1156 motherboards will only run CF and SLI in x8,x8 mode. That AMD motherboard will run those 5850's in x16,x16.

As for the 5870 that is up to him. He can get a 5870 now and add another latter. Or he can get 2 5850's now and add another 2 later.

His build is perfect and there is nothing that needs changing.

Edit: You know what john I was just thinking and it would be a better idea to go with the Phenom II 955 instead. The 955 is only 125w and the 965 is 140w. So the 955 will not get as hot and the 955 and the 965 overclock the same. So you should just go with the 955 since it has less heat and you can easily overclock it to be the same or better then the 965.

Also I just noticed you don't have a CPU cooler we're you thinking of getting one? Oh and I'm guessing you already have an OS or plain on getting Windows 7.

on the note of 140mm fans, look for the clear ones from lian li. i ordered one from the states off ebay and it's completely silent at 1000rpm, and i only ever use it at 500 now because the mobo can't change it's speed.

There are many decent P55 motherboard that costs less than $150, and there are some great combo deals

Here some great combo deals

i5 750 + 4GB DDR3 ram + Seagate 1.5 TB HDD + Asus motherboard for $497 ($487 after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.273660

i5 750 + motherboard for $305 ($295 after rebates)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.271232

Also, if gets one HD5870 or HD5850 then he would not need to upgrade for very long time. Two HD5850 is useless and he won't notice any difference in real world, and there some games that can't even use two GPUs like GTA 4

The first combo you have there is not going to do him any good. He doesn't need another that much hard drive space he already said so. Not only that but it is a seagate 7200.11 HDD which has a failure rate of like 60% iirc. Plus he is using raid. The motherboard only has 1 PCIe x16 slot which means he can never go CF without upgrading his motherboard.

The second combo deal isn't any better. Again motherboard only has 1 PCIe x16 slot so no crossfire. Not only that it's not even a good brand.

Yes you are right that a single 5870 would be better then CF 5850's. You are also right that 75% of games can't even take advantage of multiple graphics cards.

I still fail to see why he would get the i5 over the Phenom II . There is little price difference there is little performance difference. Plus he will get much more flexibility with the AMD build.

Biostar is actually a good brand

But if you don't like it, there is GIGABYTE for a good price

I forget to mention that i5 also consume significantly less power

I fail to see why would anyone get Phenom II 965 over i5 when it is more expensive, more power hungry and it can't beat i5 in performance

Why do you mean by more flexibility ?

I have never used a biostar motherboard that was any good. Neither of those other two support CF so getting another card in the future will mean a motherboard upgrade.

Yes the i5 does use less power but I'm sure if he has $1800 to spend on a computer he can afford the extra $5 a month power bill. If you would look I told him it would be a better idea to go with the 955 since the 965 runs much hotter and consumes more power.

As for the i5 750 Vs the Phenom II 955/965 the difference is going to be nearly unnoticeable especially when playing games.

By flexibility I mean more room to upgrade.

Really the i5 Vs the PII is just which ever one somebody prefers. They perform almost the same at stock clocks. The i5 does OC further but unless you are somebody who buys a CPU just to see how far you can OC it then it really doesn't matter.

We will let the OP choose which one he rather have:)

Instead of going with the 955/965 since they are in the same price range as the i5 750. Get the 945 95W, only runs 169.99. Kinda kills the price point of the i5 750. Plus Biostar is not that good of a board, falls in the same leaque as PCchips/ECS/Asrock

I'd rather go for the performance over a few watts. :P

So, now I'm stuck on fans, I don't need LED fans or anything fancy, just something with an excellent noise to performance ratio.

These any good?

Those are good but if you don't mind LED's then get the CM R4-L2R. They push more air and are just as silent. If the LED's really bother(there not bright more of a glowing color) you then you can just cut the wire to them.
