GTX 285 - Lock Ups/Black Screen

So roughly 3months ago i bought brand new computer with a GTX285 OCX.
After a couple months i started noticing artifacts as i moved up to more resource requiring games. I ran tests and even took it into memory express and for sure it was a video memory issue.

So i called up BFG and got an RMA made up, i sent it in and got it back roughly 2weeks ago. Over the past couple of weeks I have been getting black screens while playing games, I'm forced to restart my computer. I ran more tests and with Video Memory Stress Test I get this error.

Error at [3EC05490]: must be FFFF, but found 7FFF (bits: 1000000000000000)

I goes on forever....repeating the same message 1000s of times. The only difference each time is the "Error at [3EC05490]" the numbers change continuously, but the same error is occurring. Is this once again bad memory?

Another strange thing...is the card i got back... was an OC version, and the card had scratches on the stickers. It seems as if they just declocked it and sent it back, even though it was not the issue...

Anyone have ideas on this??

I know some people love BFG and have had great success with their products.

I have had horrible luck with BFG also. Maybe I am that one in a million person...but after 2 x GTX 260 (192 Core) cards that were junk....I will never purchase another BFG product again. You could not even give me a BFG product. That is no joke...you could offer me the top of the line BFG product right now and I would tell you to keep it.

Horrible customer service and they were accusing me of "not knowing what I was doing" and "not knowing what I was talking about"

They claimed my Antec Neo Power 650w was "not a suitable power supply and you should have known that before you bought a GTX 260"

LOL...Wow...my Antec PSU runs my Evga GTX 260 Core 216 overclocked wide open just fine for over 9 months now ;)

Lol, a 650W neopower would run two of those in sli.....

Ive had bad luck with BFG, not to mention how crappy their warranty is.
Change the TIM? Warranty is void
Change the Cooler? Warranty is void
Overclock/Underclock? Warranty is void

XFX and EVGA keep your warranty as long as the card is sent with the original cooler back on it, and it doesnt matter if you replaced the TIM or not aswell.

Sorry about the rant...BFG is a very touchy subject with me;)

Wow...you too? That company screwed me for about 6 weeks. Never again!

Anyway...back on topic...what is the full system specs of your computer? Maybe your PSU is a little short on the 12v rail and gets really stressed when under full load. What is the exact make and model of your PSU? It could be many different things actually.

What driver version are you running on the GTX 285?

We'll narrow this down and check each individual part. If it is just junk cards...we'll be able to tell in the end.

CPU: Intel Core i7 Processor 920 2.66Ghz
Mobo: eVGA X58 SLI w/Triple DDR3 1333, 7.1 audio, Dual Gigabit Lan, 3waySLI
Memory: OCZ 6GB PC3-12800 Platinum Edition
PSU: Silverstone Olympia OP1000-Evolution 1000W supply

Current Drive: 191.07, i did a full driver sweep..then reinstalled.
video memory stress test still brings up the same thing.

Oh and I'm running vista 64bit, if that makes any difference..

Well they may have sent you your card back or just sent you a refurbished one. Either way, it seems likely you've got yourself yet another bad card.
