I havent played it but lots of people like it
And the episodes are pretty much the third game from what I've read
I think you can get the episodes off steam or through the orange box but im not 100% sure

HL2 is amazing! Best thing to do is to buy Orange Box. Then you'll have HL2 and all the episodes to date, plus Portal (Amazing game as well) and Team Fortress 2.
As far as the episodes go, they continue the story from HL2. Episode 1 comes first, followed by Episode 2. Episode 3 is not out yet - should be out sometime next year I believe?

if you haven't played HL1, HL2 won't make too much sense, it won't be bad, but it will be mostly non-sensicle. HL2 is my personal favourite in the series though.
If you don't want TF2 and Portal though (WHY don't you want portal
) you can always just get the HL2 complete pack, comes with HL2, episode 1, episode 2 and deathmatch (deathmatch is HL2 in multiplayer, very very fun), but I too would recomend getting the orange box just for portal, it is the single finest game I have ever played

Nah. I played HL2 without playing HL1 and I was fine. All the basic ties you need to know are explained.

well it would help, but, if you said it would be a couple months before you get it, you could always keep an eye on Black Mesa and just get that.
It is a mod that someone is making half life 1 but with the source engine so it looks friggin awesome. When it will be out though is still unknown, it is meant to be this year, but it looks very very unlikely. It is free though too, they can't charge for it for some reason or another and all that you need is a source engine game (like HL2
)

HL2 *IS* amazing. I love that game, it's the only game (Besides FSX) That I actually play(ed).. I've played it three times WORTH IT...

As I said in my first post, you can get Orange Box and get HL2 and the current episodes, as well as Portal and TF2.

I read about that and just watched it. If someone ever made a full length HL2 movie it would be totally amazing
