Overclock E7400

I've been running at stock speed with my pretty fast E7400 for 10 months. I'm ready to boost it now. I want a mild overclock to 3ghz for now. I was thinking of setting it at 300 X 10 to achieve that clock. Is that ok?

Yah you would be safe, thats 3ghz, but i would recommend doing the 10mhz increase per time thing though...

You could prob get 3.3ghz with minimal volt increase, if any..

You bump the FSB by 10mhz at a time, then stress test it (Use Prime95 - run for 2 hours or more on the torture test). once it becomes unstable, you increase the voltage one notch in the bios. if it still isn't stable try another voltage bump. with 45nm you really don't want to go above 1.35v because of the heat. my 65nm E4500 is at 1.4v but smaller/newer chips can't handle as much voltage

No you won't be have to for just a 200mhz increase, i got 300mhz w/o any voltage increase, i would say your intel could get 350 to 400mhz w/o any voltage increase, those intel dual cores are beast when it come to overclocking.

I personally would push that thing to around 3.6ghz cause its known to easily get there on air.

Hey guys

I decided to OC my E7400. So I found a setting that worked for someone else and I'm working off that. I've tried bumping in the past but this time it's nice to have a starting point. So, I'm gonna set volts to a comfortable (but high) setting, keep multiplier high and fsb low, stress test and check the temps, then lower volts to find the lowest stable settings.

Basically, I jumped to 1333 Mhz because it's know to be safe with my mobo, and I kept multi at 10.5. This gave me an instant 3.5 Ghz (25% increase :D) - (Keep in mind I'm cooling with a nice big aftermarket heatsink (air) in a very cool case). I then pushed my voltages to the highest comfortable level to check for stability - vcore 1.35, fsb volt & NB volt up to max grey setting (stay below the red zone). Also, RAM is set to 1T and 1.9v.

This is proven stable with 1hr OCCT Med test [EDIT: correction Linpack test, not Med test] and 6.5 hrs Orthos Small FFTs. :good: Max temps for OCCT were 60-64C and Orthos were 50-54C. not too shabby, and it can only get cooler from here.

Now I'm gonna start backing down the vcore until lowest stable is found, followed by fsb volt and NB volt.

Will post further results. Hope this helps someone.

This reminds me that I really need to improve overall cooling in my case. I've managed to get 3.45GHz out of my E7200 (stock is 2.53GHz) with a vcore of about 1.29 V. I could probably get it to go higher if I could raise the vcore. Alas, the temperatures would be too high, which is a shame as I seem to have a very nice sample.

Good luck on your overclocking endeavor!
