The Xeon may be 2.5 times the price, but it will smoke that opteron. The opteron is just 6 deneb cores stuck on the die. Lame AMD. Plus the Xeon will overclock much further.

Same here, but if i had a server cpu in my desktop id definately overclock it, the lower stock voltages allow for greater voltage headroomI would never over clock a server ever...

No you wouldn't, at least if you had common sense. You want the server to be as reliable as possible, especially since most are run 24/7.I would![]()

We are just talking about server CPU's here, that doesn't necessarily mean it has to be in a dedicated server. Lots of people use server CPU in their PCs.
