AMD processor that is like Intel Xeon

A few years back Opterons actually kicked Xeon's asses. I have not compared the two by today's standards.

The Xeon may be 2.5 times the price, but it will smoke that opteron. The opteron is just 6 deneb cores stuck on the die. Lame AMD. Plus the Xeon will overclock much further.

Because that's what you do with server cpu's.... overclock them.

But how would it fare against TWO of those opterons?

edit: Woo 100th post! :D

No you wouldn't, at least if you had common sense. You want the server to be as reliable as possible, especially since most are run 24/7.

Saying i have no common sense? :P

We are just talking about server CPU's here, that doesn't necessarily mean it has to be in a dedicated server. Lots of people use server CPU in their PCs.

Some overclock very very well and show impressive results in their gaming rigs.

Id love an 1366 Quad Core Xeon E5530 2.4 GHz
