Very Frustrated

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 and recently upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7. It has a Intel Core 2 CPU @ T7200 @ 2Ghz. 2MB RAM and a 32-Bit Operating System. The Windows 7 upgrade was a godsend as many problems went away but I still have one big one that I need help with.

If I have both my e-mail (Thunderbird) and browser (Firefox) running at the same time for about 3-4 minutes my laptop starts bogging down. Then, if I start watching a YouTube video or whatever the laptop just freezes and I have to start closing things. I almost always have the Windows Task Manager up and running to watch what's happening and the freezing cooresponds to and is directly proportionate to CPU usage. I don't have Malware or a Virus and do all the stuff the techs tell you to do regarding clean-up. My thought is that there must be a setting in my operating system that needs to be changed/increased so my CPU usage comes down and stops bogging everything down.

I find it very hard to believe that this laptop will not support Windows 7 and that this should be happening. Someone please tell me what to do before I throw this thing out the window.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. I'm all ears!

I have the same laptop as you and that 2 MB RAM should say 2 GB RAM. I run windows 7 64 bit ultimate with no problems. Granted I should get 4 gigs of ram but Ill end up doing that eventually.

As far your laptop freezing, you really need to make sure you dont have any extra applications running all at once. Also defrag your computer and clean out unecessary files that you dont need. If I remember the HD space is 120 Gigs of space (had to upgrade my HD).

I recommend re-installing the Windows 7 if you are having issues. If you still have problems, then just google the error messages and go from there. Normally, re-installing the operating system takes care of issue if there's no issue with compatibility between the software and hardware.

Phoophan,

What type of upgrade installation did you perform -- an upgrade or custom ("clean") install? Also, prior to migrating to Windows 7 from Windows XP did you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor?

To determine if your current computer configuration will be compatible with Windows 7 please go to the following link: http://tinyurl.com/no4xb7

Another resource to verify compatibility is available at the Microsoft Windows 7 Compatibility Center located at the following link: http://bit.ly/1gW6Ns

If you performed an upgrade installation you might want to attempt a custom installation to see if that resolves your current performance issues.
